The COVID-19 Pandemic continues. This means staying at home, and going out less and less. I haven't driven downtown in 3 months. Working from home everyday, and minimal trips to grocery stores.
But, it does mean I am focusing more time on creating artwork. See the ART page for some recent paintings. Style Guides (aka Brand Books) have always been fun to make. Over the years I have spearheaded many guides: from Food Network, to Fine Living, to Weather Channel (selects seen below)
Yesterday I was cleaning out some old drives and ran across some photos we took of one of our former houses. Although most of our home ownership years were in California and New Jersey, in 2008, we decided to buy a home in the Rosedale section of Austin.
A quick visit to kick off 2020 at the DMA. Always inspiring.
Nestled in the mountains of Northern Colorado, about 30 miles South of the Wyoming border, lies Vista Verde Ranch, a working ranch/resort. It's about a half hour north of Steamboat Springs, the well known ski area.
Vista Verde had tons of winter activities, including horseback riding, back country skiing, skate skiing, snowmobiling and more. We decided against a ski trip over Christmas Break, which meant staying here in Dallas.
On New Years Eve we spent part of the day at the Dallas Arboretum, of which we are members. Since Dallas is not really an "outdoorsy" city, I love visiting the Arboretum year round, for its open space and location on White Rock Lake. In 2018, I backed off on the liquors (mainly, vodka) and added more beer to my diet, in addition to, of course, red wine.
My two favorite beers of the year were: Estrella Inedit, a Spanish Ale, and the website describes it better than I: Aromatized with coriander, orange peel and liquorice. Inedit means "Never been done before". In cooperation witht the brewmasterd of Estrella Damm, Inedit was crafted by the globally acclaimed chef Ferran Andria, Juli Soler and sommeliers Ferran Centelles and David Seijas from ElBulli Restaurant. A skillfully brewed blend of lager and wheat beer styles, Inedit uses a combination of barley malt, wheat, hops, coriander, orange peel, yeast and water. Uniquely brewed to create a complex aroma and opaque appearance, a floral nose leaves a sensation of fresh yeast and sweet spices. Lightly carbonated with a creamy texture, the soft full body leaves a long and lasting finish. Revolver Blood and Honey, a local beer brewed in Granbury, Texas. An unfiltered, deep-golden ale brewed with malted two-row barley and wheat. Finished with blood orange peel, Texas honey and a blend of spices. Both have orange peel in it, so I guess there's that. Justin Willman. We just shot a commercial with him for state farm. He's brilliant. Check out his Netflix special. My youngest son is interested in art. He wants to go to a visual arts high school, which requires a portfolio and, if possible, awards.
